Tiffani Thiessen wants you to Pull Up a Chair.

The Saved by the Bell alum is releasing her debut cookbook Pull Up a Chair: Recipes from My Family to Yours this fall, and PEOPLE has an exclusive first look. The collection of 125 recipes features a plethora of new dishes, family favorites, and a few highlights from her Cooking Channel show, Dinner at Tiffani’s.

The title of the book, due out October 2 and available for pre-order now, was inspired by a phrase she’s used throughout her transition from actress to entertaining guru. “I used to say it on the show all the time,” Thiessen tells PEOPLE. “It’s kind of just my whole way of thinking and feeling about food and how I love that it connects people.”

“Food can change your mood,” adds the Alexa & Katie star. “It’s almost like music a little bit, you know? It can break a fight. It could calm a child down. It could do so many things, and that’s what I love. So this book is really about pulling up a chair and really connecting with people over food.”

Inside, you’ll find stunning photography of her gorgeous kids Harper, 7, and Holt, 2, indulging in dishes they truly enjoying eating at home. “My kids love the cherry and maple granola. We make it every weekend to last us all week long,” she says. “It is so good! I even give it out as gifts.”

Thiessen’s husband Brady Smith, a Houston-native, has also been an influence. “You’ll see a lot of Texas flare in there,” she says of recipes like her three-cheese queso and short rib enchiladas.

The project has been a long time coming, she says. “I’ve loved food since I was little. I’ve always loved to cook, and then my love of it just grew as I got older, and started traveling, and started entertaining.”

Now, after three years of work, she’s thrilled to share her passion with her fans. “It’s been a hard labor,” she says, “but I know very rewarding in the end.”

Deadline has shared the good news that Netflix has decided to order a second season of Alexa & Katie! So happy! I love this series!

Just a few weeks after its Season 1 launch, Netflix has ordered a second season of its first tween sitcom Alexa & Katie, toplined by Disney XD star Paris Berelc (Mighty Med, Lab Rats: Elite Force) and newcomer Isabel May.

Created and executive produced by Heather Wordham (Hannah Montana, Reba), who also will serve as showrunner for Season 2, Alexa & Katie is about lifelong best friends Alexa (Berelc) and Katie (May), who are eagerly anticipating the start of their freshman year of high school. Despite the fact that Alexa is undergoing cancer treatment, her outgoing personality and enthusiasm for life never falter, especially with her loyal, quirky and awkwardly adorable best friend Katie by her side. At times they’re left feeling like outsiders, during a period when what seems to matter most is fitting in. Wordham takes over for Matthew Carlson, who was showrunner on Season 1.

Tiffani Thiessen is a woman who knows what she wants — and isn’t afraid to dig through the rubble to get it.

When a home in her Encino, California, neighborhood was torn down, the Cooking Channel star, 44, saw an opportunity to transform the leftover brick into a fireplace for the backyard she shares with husband Brady Smith and their two kids, Harper, 7, and Holt, 2. Although she was the brains behind the operation, it was Smith, 46, who made the outdoor magic happen.

“I bribed my husband to take a wheelbarrow and get it,” Thiessen tells Food Network Magazine in the April issue.

The rest of the sunny space came together with a little less elbow grease, and now sports rattan furniture, a pergola and a plethora of plants. The latter was inspired by Thiessen and Smith’s fathers, who are both retired landscape architects.

The welcoming vibe extends inside their 6,000-square-foot abode, which serves as a retreat for the Dinner at Tiffani’s host.

“The moment you arrive, you don’t feel like you’re in Los Angeles anymore,” she says.

Her kitchen and hyper-organized pantry might be the focal point of the five-bedroom house, but her living room (top) is equally as cozy, sporting a black-painted fireplace, a bright yellow ottoman and artwork created by her husband.

The casual-chic vibe is prevalent in the remodeled master bedroom, which boasts an Anthropologie bed and an antique rug, in addition to an oversize gold mirror and black velvet-upholstered bench.

“I wanted a cross between vintage and upscale,” Thiesssen says. “I like that it feels French, but also very American.”

With plenty of room for her husband, kids and their pets (two dogs and chickens!) and a close-knit relationship with the community — “Over the last few years we have gotten some great neighbors with kids, and we’ve become very close with them,” she told PEOPLE last May — it’s safe to say the Saved by the Bell alum isn’t seeing any “For Sale” signs in her future.

“We knew this was going to be the home we stayed in for a long time,” she says.
